How much d-mannose powder per 10 lbs for UTI prevention. My sister’s lab has chronic issues, has had every test imaginable done with no success. Told her that when the vets couldn’t help our collie that I took her to a holistic vet who recommended D-Mannose powder. Worked great, but it’s been years and I can’t remember the dosage. Her lab weighs 90 lbs. Would greatly appreciate help as I can’t get an answer on safari. Thank you 🙂
Hi Janine,
Thanks for contacting us. The dose for D-Mannose in dogs is 500mg twice a day mixed with food. It coats the wall/lining of the urinary bladder so as to help repel bacteria and prevent recurrent urinary track infections. There is no smell or taste and our results have been very good. Note: the dose for cats is 250mg twice a day. Best of health to your sisters lab. Please be in touch if I can be of further assistance.
Yours in good pet health,
Dr. Carol
You say dose for dog is 500mg but is there and increase or decrease depending on weight of the dog, also I have a question about dosing prophylactically vs curing a UTI…I do know that it is only effective with e coli but my cavalier king charles spaniel gets chronic UTIs. I have her on a grain free 5 star food and she gets probiotics. I am trying to avoid repeated antibiotics… no infection now… what dose of D-mannose would be preventative ?
Thanks
try half that dose: 250mg twice daily
My cat has asthma and I will give the compound of amazapet, as has much stress I want also give her hawthorn ( i bought Crataegus oxycatha 5 CH). My vet is not sure if it is asthma, I have fear that it could be something from the heart, so perhaps is good give to her the hawthorn. In Spain there are not many holistic veterinarians, I need to know the dosage of Craetagus 5CH.
My cat weighs 8lb, I’ve been giving oral prednisone (the vet), his symptoms started right after his companion cat passed away days earlier after an operation for olive pit. It was devastating, she started coughing occasionally breathing more quickly and with a pattern a little weird. She has not been coughing since I give the medication, but want a more natural alternative with fewer side effects. When she was small I saved her from an air duct, so sick of the airways, when she gets nervous and makes noises when breathing during sleep sometimes makes a soft noise like a sweet snore.
Thanks for your help
Best regards

Hi, I have a 12 Y/o Jack Russell who keeps getting bouts of pancreatitis. The Vet tells me to put him on a blan low fat diet for a while, which I suggest cooked chicken and rice which he agrees whilst my Jack Russel “Jake” is taking his meds. Then we revert back to his normal diet of “Science Diet” kibble for senior dogs and “My Dog” wet food mixed in.
My question is, can you recommend a consistent diet for my Jake that will stop his ongoing bouts of pancreatitis reoccurring. Surely I could be doing something better. Is there a supplement that I can put him on even? My Jake is quite old and I don’t think between visits he is entirely healed after taking the medication. He is lethargic and follows me around like a shadow. Can you advise me of extra care with his diet to help this poor little guy enjoy life more please?
Kylie,
Dr.Carol could do a consult with you and make you a special diet, homemade, just for your little guy. She would also suggest many products to help keep the pancreatitis at bay, and prevent ongoing problems. 440 247 5901
I would suggest, Dr.Carol’s PAAWS, Probiotics, and Digest-Zymes
Hello. I feed my dog raw and want to be sure I have a good balance going of what she needs and in the proper amounts. First, here is some background :
She is an 80lb 10 year old great Pyrenees/Chow/Shepherd mix (in that order) hypothyroid dog and has arthritis in her back legs. She is relatively sedentary and is an indoor dog but she does get daily walks around the block every single day and then a long hike in the hills on the weekend. Despite what it sounds like, she is a very upbeat and happy dog who loves to play and only shows sign of age when she gets up in the morning and has to stretch her legs a bit but then has full mobility without strain . She is currently on a twice a day, 0.5mg dose of Levothyroxine (Thyro – Tabs). She gets her levels tested twice a year and was just recently tested and her levels indicate she is on the correct dose. She does produce SOME of her own and have, in the past, cut her down to one pill. But I find it to be a bit stabilizing for her and I’d rather keep things more consistent. She has recurrent skin issues (pyroderma) and while I just accept that as something that comes along with hypohyroidism, I found that switching to raw dramatically changed her skin and coat.
Here is what I give her:
12oz raw ground beef (75-80% lean)
1 hard boiled egg WITH the shell (sometimes raw but not often)
2 fish oil pills (human kind) W/1200 mg w/360mg omega 3 & 1,000 I.U. Vitamin D3 (which I read is too much of the Vit D3 and so I likely won’t buy that again. thoughts?)
4 teaspoons of Dogzymes Norweigan Kelp with 780ppm iodine
2 chewables tablets of Prosense Vitamin Solutions . Here is the nutrition info:

Hello I have a 10 year old boxer, recently x-ray with arthritis down his spine affecting his strength etc. We give him Dasaquin advanced which I’m seeing has curcumin included. He weighs 64 lbs. My question… can I also include in his food a dose of tumeric in the powder form? If so what measurement and what do I mix in for good absorbtion without aggravating his GI track! He is on a lower fat diet to keep his belly settled. Want to avoid the nsaids too! I appreciate your time and response! Dianne
Dianne
Tumeric at 500mg 1-2x daily is an average dose for your dog
Thank you
Dr Carol

You would have to contact your veterinarian directly for dosing and administration.
Hi! I have 8 house cats. Two of my females have decided to pee outside the litter boxes. Have seen one of the females standing to pee as if she’s marking. Both checked out for UTI and they are negative. Litter isn’t the problem as I have tried different types with no success. Have also tried numerous boxes in numerous locations with same results. Both females get into minor cat fights with some of the others so this makes me think the issue is behavioral. Can you suggest something holistic to help calm them?
Betty,
I am sorry to hear this, sometimes cats grow to dislike one another. Some people elect to seperate the cats inside the home, which is difficult. Somepeople have luck with calming essential oils and the Feliway Products
Can you tell me where I can get vitamin c IV’s for my dog with cancer. Also does all holistic vets administer it how much to give.
Deb,
Here is a link to find a holistic vet in your area https://www.ahvma.org/find-a-holistic-veterinarian/
They would know all the dosing and adminstration information.
This is goin be the third and last time I ask since I haven’t received any type of a response and it is a time sensitive situation. So can u please tell me if u have heard of H202 food grade, HWF or Black Walnut pills, as a treatment for heartworms?? Or can u tell me how and what to use to kill heartworms in my 17- 20 lb Chihuahua terrier mix.
Hi Li,
You would have to consult with your veterinarian about specific dosing. Some people do try other methods for heartworm treatment but they do not come with 100% guarentee. If you have any questions contact us directly drcarol@drcarol.com
Best Wishes.
