Recalls Affecting Pets and Humans. A number of recalls have been announced recently, and a few affect both pets and humans. Most all pet owners are now aware of the massive pet food recall by Diamond Pet Foods that has sickened a number of people through the handling of the food. More recent recalls include a massive pharmacy recall, human food recall, and a recall on pet collars.
Recall on Human and Veterinary Compounded Drugs
A recall on all sterile human and veterinary prescriptions distributed by Franck’s Pharmacy between the dates of November 21, 2011 to May 21, 2012 has been issued. The recall was announced after the Food and Drug Administration notified the pharmacy of microorganisms and fungal growth in the facility’s clean room. Consumers with any preparation they believe to be included in this recall are advised to discontinue use and discard the product. Questions about this recall can be directed to the pharmacy by calling 352-690-6779, Monday through Friday, 9AM to 5PM Eastern Standard Time. (For additional information, you can read the announcement on the FDA’s website.)
Gentle Leaders Headcollars Recall
Premier has announced that specific Gentle Leader Headcollars sold between August 2011 and May 10, 2012 may have a defect that results in unintended release. Premier has agreed to replace any collars that contain the defect. A list of known affected products is available here. If you have a defective collar, you can email the company at [email protected] for exchange information.
Voluntary Organic Baby Spinach Recall
Though spinach isn’t a common snack for pets, some pet owners do include chopped spinach in their pets diet as well as their own. Private Selections and Marketside brands of organic baby spinach are being recalled due to possible salmonella contamination. All recalled spinach had a Best By date of May 25, 2012. For more information, you can see the FDA release here.
