Pet Bully Sticks Recalled. The FDA announced yet another pet treat recall. Carolina Prime Pet, Inc., manufactures a product called Priority Total Pet Care All Natural Bullstrips which were recalled due to Salmonella bacterial contamination. The Colorado Department of Agriculture was responsible for detecting the tainted batch of pet treats.
The recalled bull strips were sold in a 5 count package with the lot codes 0-21130-42080-3, 20082712-S-3195 and 20090312-S3195.
The tainted pet treats were sold in Safeway stores across the country from September through November. In addition the pet bull sticks were distributed at Vons, Pavillions and Park-N-Save of California, Randalls and Thumb Thumb stores of Texas and Genuardi’s shops in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Pet owners are advised to immediately discard the treats and are also welcome to return them for a refund or replacement product at the place of purchase. Consumers in need of further information may contact the company directly at 1-888-370-2360.
Salmonella bacteria are considered to be Zoonotic or transmissible to humans. Signs of Salmonella bacterial infection may include vomiting and diarrhea with or without blood, lethargy, fever and appetite loss.
Additional symptoms in people may include arthritis, Endocarditis and eye issues. Should pets or humans suspect infection seeking prompt medical care from your veterinarian or primary health care provider is recommended.
So far no active cases or sickened dogs have been reported.
To prevent Salmonella, pet owners should practice good sanitary hygiene for example wash your hands well, sanitize pet food and water bowls and carefully discard the tainted treats.
