Hello Dog Lovers: Here’s a note, I received from a woman with a dog experiencing explosive diarrhea. Dear Dr. Carol, I can’t thank you enough for your help and support. Penny’s diarrhea is gone and that powder you sent me really did the trick in 2 days. I really couldn’t believe it. Thank you again!
Cindy
Dr. Carol,
I wrote to you a couple of weeks ago about my dog, Penny. She is a 12 year old golden retriever and thanks to your wonderful Paaws vitamins (along with your bone & joint formula), she acts like a three year old and we love her as much as we love our children. You wrote me back and told me you would work with me to help me get rid of Penny’s diarrhea. I did not immediately respond because I decided to try the remedy of boiled chicken and rice only for her food. In addition, as of yesterday I have stopped her frosty paws ice cream in the morning as well as her favorite chicken jerky. Unfortunately, none of this has helped so I am going to try the diarrhea remedy and home-made recipe you suggested. She is not acting sick but is definitely not able to control the urge to go, thus allowing for many accidents in the house. She is extremely happy and playful after she goes. She is continuing her walks, is playful, has not lost weight, and is definitely enjoying her boiled chicken and rice. The stools are very loose and bad smelling. I dropped off a stool sample to my vet.
The vet tested Penny’s stool for parasites and said nothing showed up, though I realize that all parasites do not show through this test. The vet has put her on Flagyl and another small pill to harden her stool. She has been on this for a couple days but does not seem to be making a difference. I worry about the effects to her digestive tract with the antibiotic. Penny is a very anxious dog, is afraid of storms and terrified of the vet. I am trying to put off as long as possible taking her in for additional testing as she does not deal with it very well. She becomes so terrified and breathes so hard that I am fearful she will have a heart attack. My vet is wonderful and actually crawls on the floor and under the chair to examine her but it is very traumatic for her.
Thank you so much for your help. I am desperate.
