Systemic illness is defined as a disease of any major organ system or any condition that ultimately affects the whole body. The signs will vary depending on which organ system is involved, for instance the heart, liver or kidneys. The key to making sure your cat has the best possible quality and length of life are early recognition and reduction of predisposing health risk factors as well as accurate diagnosis and prompt correction. The more observant you are as an owner the easier it will be to work with your vet to ensure your cat or dog’s optimal health.
